House On The Hill

A weekend retreat away from the bustle of the city, this house emerges from a steep hill overlooking the Arabian Sea. An outstretched horizontal stone platform comprising the pool and its utilities, visually connects the intersecting programmatic volumes to the infinite ocean beyond.

Two stone retaining walls made of locally available basalt wrap around the front and rear of the house. The articulation of space is governed by the different ways in which these volumes interact with the stone walls. The house is a result of a continuous negotiation between topography, programmatic requirements and economy.
